Default Sept. 4th, 2010 Little Bay de Noc

I saw a couple guys setting tip-ups on Nelson's Bay this morning! I guess the weeds are really making it tough to drill holes though because they keep binding up the augers. I told him to take a weedwacker with next time... All kidding aside, not much happening on the water. Just too darn windy!!! Have guys here prefishing for the MWC Tourney next weekend and most have just been relaxing the last couple days. One guy did catch a couple eaters on Big Bay his first day here, but hasn't been able to get back out since. This wind is nasty. The water level has dropped close to 15 inches I would say. Can't wait to see what the water temperature has dropped down too...

Default Little Bay de Noc-August 24th, 2010

Another great day on the bay today as my brother Kenneth had long time clients Denny Gustafson and Jim Lewinski from the Chicago with him. They got on the water around 6:30 a.m. and Kenneth said it was pretty fast and furious the first two hours of the day, then when the wind really kicked up, but the fishing slowed. Kenneth was really looking forward to the wind kicking up, because that usually turns the fish on big time and he thought they would have a fantastic day fishing. He's glad they got out there early, because the later it got, the slower it got. They did manage to get their 15 fish limit of really nice walleyes and released some beautiful smallies as well. They caught all their fish drifting with floating jig heads tipped with just a small 2 inch piece of night crawler. They called it a day shortly after 1 p.m. and headed back to the resort. Hopefully the cold front moving through tonight doesn't shut the fish down too much as they will be back out there again tomorrow. Good luck on the water folks...

Default Little Bay de Noc-August 18th/19th 2010

AUGUST 18th, 2010
My brother Kenneth fished with Tim and Cindy from the Monroe area of lower Michigan and Tom Janks from right here in Rapid River. They left the Gladstone Yacht Harbor around 6:30 a.m. and headed out to troll harnesses behind bottom bouncers. Kenneth left a pretty good slug of fish on Sunday and figured they'd be in the same area. Boy was he wrong! They fished for three hours with only one keeper and a few undersized fish. Then Kenneth put the trolling gear away, and ventured to a weedbed that's been getting pounded by the wind the last few days and got out the drifting rods. In the next hour and a half they put 13 more fish in the boat. The quality of fish was awesome, with all but 4 fish being 18 to 22 1/2 inches. My brother love's drifting with floating jig heads tipped with 1/2 crawlers, it's probably his 2nd most favorite way to fish for walleyes. Jigging would be his favorite! It was a little windy to start the day, but by the time they got back to the dock around noon it was beautiful out there. It sure pays to be versatile when fishing. The water temperature dropped 7 degrees since Sunday's major cold front and Kenneth thought the bite might be tough, but by slowing down and putting something right in their face, they ended up having a pretty decent trip.

AUGUST 19th, 2010
Another great 5 hr. trip this morning for my brother Kenneth and his guests. Longtime client Dale DeWildt came back up from Appleton and brought his friend Paul to get in on the fun. They waited a little while for the rain to move out and then hit the water around 7 a.m.. It was pretty rough this morning, and they had to use both 60 inch drift socks to slow them down while drifting with floating jig heads tipped with crawler halves. Paul had never fished that way for walleyes before, but Kenneth said he soon got the hang of it and ended up having the hot hand at putting fish in the boat. Dale finally caught up and started catching some nice fish too. My brother on the other hand...well, he was doing a great job at losing fish today. He just told the guys he was being nice and didn't want to show them up! With all the fish that came off today, Kenneth said they should have had over 20 keepers. They ended up landing 13 walleye while drifting but then lost their wind. They made one short trolling pass the last 1/2 hr. with bottom bouncers and harnesses and picked up their last two fish and headed in. Good luck on the water folks...

Default Wind, women, and walleye!!!

My brother Kenneth had a father and two daughters out for a 5 hour trip this morning, and despite the strong west winds, caught some nice fish. The oldest daughter (Bridgette I believe) wanted to go fishing before heading off to college. Now that's my kind of girl!!! So anyway, they ended up with 11 nice walleye. All the fish came trolling spinners and crawlers off boards at 1 mph. Purple and green were two of the hotter colors on the spinners. Not sure how deep they were fishing, but if they were fishing where I think they were, it was 28-40 feet. The water temperature has hit 81 degrees at the north end of the bay. You gotta love it because it the warm water sure makes for some great fishing! Good luck on the water folks...

Default Little Bay de Noc-August 12th, 2010

My brother Kenneth and his clients had a decent day today. It started our pretty tough though with them having a hard time catching any keepers, but the wind finally kicked up a bit and a few of the bigger ones started biting. They ended up with 12 walleye and 3 nice perch. All the fish were taken trolling spinners and crawlers behind boards. Purple was one of the better colors on the spinners. I forgot to ask how deep they were fishing! Good luck on the water folks.

Default Little Bay de Noc-August 6th, 2010

Well, those darn north winds screwed up the bite again! My brother Kenneth and his clients only caught 5 keeper walleye today. They were actually larger than what he has been catching the last few trips, just not as many. All the fish came trolling spinners/crawlers over the tops of weeds in fairly shallow water. The forecast shows south winds all next week though, so the bite should pick up pretty quick and next week could be one of the best weeks for fishing we have seen this summer on Little Bay de Noc since the walleye out here just love south winds!!!

Default Little Bay de Noc-August 2nd, 2010

The bite today was "so-so" for my brother Kenneth and his client Dale DeWildt from Appleton Wisconsin until the wind came up. But once it started to blow, the game was on! At the highest point of craziness, they caught 8 walleye in about 10 minutes with only half their lines out. All the fish came on spinners and crawlers from 8-12 feet of "dirty" water where the wind was blowing into shore. Purple was one of the best colors on the spinners today. Good luck on the water folks...

Default Little Bay de Noc-Last 3 days...

Friday, my brother Kenneth found a tough bite compared to previous days and he and his clients only took 6 keeper walleye. Yesterday, he and some friends hit Big Bay de Noc and caught close to 70 smallmouth bass. Nothing real big, but loads of fun. Today he took the same friends out for walleye on Little Bay and brought back 15 keepers and a decent northern. We had south winds today, so he should have a good bite tomorrow. Of course I've been wrong before...

Default Little Bay de Noc-July 30th, 2010

Whup, the cold front and north winds put the kabosh on the hot walleye bite up here on Little Bay de Noc. My brother Kenneth and his clients only caught 6 keeper walleye on yesterday's trip. The winds are supposed to switch back around to the south though, so things should improve again pretty quick...

Default Little Bay de Noc-July 28th, 2010

My brother Kenneth and his clients had pretty much the same results today as yesterday...which means a three man limit in just 2-3 hours. They trolled spinners and crawlers again in 8-10 feet of "dirty" water with white and purple being the hot colors. They through lots of fish back including several more keepers. A very sucessful 5 hour trip!!! You gotta love these warmer water temperatures of 75-79 degrees (depending on location). The other thing that has really helped this year is all the rain (though I think we have had enough for awhile!). But the rain has kept the rivers flowing which brings in dark tanic stained water and that really helps to darken the water on the bay. Darn, I'm ready to go fishin'!!!
