Default fish report 5/14/10

Hit Whitewater Friday 5/14 from 9-3....caught this nice Largie in first 10 minutes, went 18"+ and had a belly full of eggs. Nothing for next couple of hours then around 1 the bite picked up and we found a few small LM and a couple of mid 20's pike. Water temp is still in the mid 50's out there. This weeks forecast of warm weather should get things moving. Everything was caught on spinner, crank, lipless crank.

Default ugh

Went out yesterday for awhile. Only had 5 bites all day. I broke off two good fish, one on a shaky head, one on a jig, caught one small keeper and missed my other two bites. Water temps were anywhere from 49.5 to 52. For the first time this fall the bites I did have were solid. They pounded the bait. I am hoping to still get out a couple of times assuming the weather holds. I really dont want my last memories of the year being breaking off those two big fish. Still want that 6-7 pounder which I know is there for the taking.

Default Still searching

Went out again on Saturday. Water Temps down to 48.9. Still looking for the bite to really pickup. Got 5 keepers. Best one was just under 5lbs. Total weight was around 15+. The real pigs continue to elude me. Same techniques as other weekends.

Default Wisconsin Oddity

I forgot to mention and thought everyone might get a kick out of this. On saturday I did catch something other than Green Pigs......I caught a freaking 6-7in Jack Dempsey Cichlid. It was quite weird pulling that out of the lake. He pounded my jig like a 5 pounder. My guess is it was an aquarium fish released this summer. I threw him back in knowing that they cant survive in cold water temps and Im sure it will get pummelled by a largie before winter anyway. Just an interesting side note to my trip. I took pics and will post them when I get a chance.

Default Starting to heat up

Went out to WW again on sat from 1-7 with a buddy. Between us we had 4 fish over 4 pounds and a few 3's. I lost two pigs also. My best 5 went a little over 17 pounds. Same techniques and areas as last weekend. Going out on Saturday again. Water temps were 54.5.

Default Fall Piggies

Went out to Whitewater saturday with a buddy for a few hours. The big fish are starting to move in. Caught three 5+ pound largies and a 3 pounder to go with a few shorts. Bite was very light. Didnt feel the fish hit just weight. Not a ton of action but it should only get better as the temps continue to drop. I had temps at 59 degrees. This time of year they fatten up on crayfish (in other words they feed down). So whatever pattern you prefer for this forage base I am sure will work. I am a jig guy. I'll be out there every weekend from here on searching for a 7 pounder.

Fished my club tourny out on Whitewater last saturday. Fish were fickle with all the unstable weather last week but good fish were still caught just not the types of weight you see in the spring. Fish were caught on 200 series bandit cranks tucked up close to rock (shoreline rock) that extended out into about 8 feet of water. First time I fished this lake. Largies were pounding the cranks when they were around.
