here is a better picture of a young northern. When fish are that small it can be very difficult to ID because as with most things, as they develop, they show the signs of evolution that they went through to get where they are today, just like when the human embryo develops, it does have a tail and even gill-like appendages at one point in time through the development. The closer some species are the later in development the differences become obvious. sorry to get all sciency on you, but i'm just saying that with this picture, it would be almost impossible to tell.

it can be really hard to tell when they are that small because northerns will not have those characteristic horizontal bars yet. A little better picture of the fins might help, but I would have to say that that is a northern pike by the fins from what i see.

Default Help Identify Please

I'm pretty sure this is a baby northern, but the verticle stripes are throwing me off. Only about 8 inches long. Was caught out of Pell Lake with no musky population. I was thinking it might be a tiger or a pickerel. Any imput would be cool.
