Delavan Lake

Great fishing again this past week on delavan with awesome action on the pike, bass, and even a few legal eyes. Gills are going nuts on the deep weeds, pike and bass are on the deep weeds and rock really schooling up. Swim baits, jigging spoons, live bait have all been working along with drop shots and jigs for the bass.
18-25 feet was hot this past week for me.

Fished down on delavan this past week and the bite continues to be awesome catching lots of pike of the deep weeds and rock and also catching some big bass now with plenty of gills and some eyes mixed the bite has been great and actually there were only a few boats on the lake this weekend and more during the week which was crazy!

Hit Delavan again yesterday afternoon. We boated 1 largie, 1 smallie and 21 pike if memory serves. We had chances at several others. Between the hits and keeping Braden (6yrs old) from "getting bored" Chad and I were worn out.
Really fun afternoon out on the lake.

Hit Delavan yesterday morning. Finally got a taste of Captain Haataja's pike mania. We boated 25 pike and 3 nice bass as well as a handful of gills.
Great 1/2 day on the water.

Sorry for the late post. Some pics from last Friday. We boated 15 gamefish with a few legals.
Nice pics Captain scrappy. You don't show up until June and then pick up right where you left off. Well played!

Made it out on Friday and the fishing was exceptional we boated 37 pike numerous bass and all the gills clients could handle, the pike action was crazy for the 6 hours we fished! The last 2 trips out there we boated over 25 pike each trip so the action is good. Plenty of fish on plastics, live bait and jigging spoons. The summer bite out deeper for bass pike and eyes is going strong! Several more fish in the upper 30 inch class pushing 40 inches all released of course!

Fished Delavan for the first time with the "Finseeker" on friday. Showed us a good time!! Thanks Steve. We had a great time, good conversation and put some fish in the boat. The only bad part was the "babysitting"....

Fished D last night for the first time in a few weeks. Looked for bass on the weed edges and was disappointed with only two caught, biggest 17 inches. Try jig and trailer in thicker weeds, caught a few more, biggest 18 1/2 inches. Was never able to get to an effective pattern, one here, one there. All fish cauaght in 8 feet to 14 feet. Kind of a yawner.
Good luck,,,

Summer patterns are setting up on the lake.
Fished with clients in the rain and fishing was nothing short of fantastic. Started off catching as many gills as the guys could handle. Customers wanted to take home some fish and the gills were going nuts on the deep weeds. clients had numerous triple headers and I had my hands full changing baits unhooking fish etc....after catching a 2 man limit I asked what would you like to catch next, they asked for some big pike. So we ventured just outside the gills in 18-24 feet of water and starting throwing some swim jigs, plastics and dragging some suckers. The pike bite was also very good our first fish of the day was just short of 40 inches and we had several doubles. The we fished eyes for about an hour and we ended up with some nice walleyes on some deep rock in the 22 foot range fishing was also solid for eyes. Seemed like just about everywhere we fished and everything we fished for was biting well. Which is always nice because there's days when the fishing is much tougher.
We ended up with more fish than I could try to count, lots of pike, largies some smallies and eyes, and many gills for the fryer. we had several legal eyes as well.
We also got into some dandy smallies at the end of the day. Overall a fantastic day on Delavan in the rain showers.
I'll be back out there tomorrow. Here's a few pics.....

Nice Work Robbie!
Boated 22 pike today and 1 bass. Most of the pike were medium sized but we did manage a few over 30". Bass scaled 5.9 lbs and was the biggest I have seen so far this year.

Ive avoided the crowds at delavan for years but I decided to give it a shot today. The parking lot was full of trailers but once I was on the water I was suprised to see there wasnt much boat traffic. I did pretty well dragging some suckers behind the kayak.

I will eventually make my way back to the dreadful delavan....I've been on vacation and now fishing other lakes with just as big of fish and practically no boat traffic is priceless!
Thanks for the reports!

I found same thing when I went that bigger fish had not moved to summer spots yet. we found most of our fish that were not on beds to be on slow transition flats that still had some weeds growing.

Hit D last night for a couple of hours. Water (surface) temps up to 75-76 in the main lake. Immediately went to my summer spots looking for post spawn females. Nada.
Changed plans after three spots without a bite and went to..... the docks. Skipped tubes and scored. Fish up to 18 1/2 inches. Post spawn fish, all. A little surprised to find them so shallow, but glad I changed up!

Was out Sunday morning. We went 17 for 20 on pike. The majority of the fish were in the upper 20's to low 30's. We again caught fish as shallow as 13 feet and as deep as 22'.
I picked up some really nice suckers from Watersedge. Nice to be able to buy bigger bait this early in the season.

I found the bass bite tougher again today allthough we had our chances at big fish but only converted on the the smaller guys. We fished for them shallow with plastics and then deep with suckers. We ended up 11 for 20 for the day and boated 5 pike over 30". We lost big bass on jumps and by them hitting 6"-9" baits and not getting good hooks in them. We had 1 bass grab a bait and run 160' of line off like it was nothing and then she fell off 8 feet from the boat.
The pike bite was great at times and had several chances at doubles including 1 fish that clearly ate 2 of our baits one after the other and we photo'd her 2 seperate hooks in her mouth. Traffic was better than expected and the customers had a great time. Got some real nice suckers from Watersedge in Janesville! Fish came as shallow as 13' and as deep as 22', not trying to be vague, that is just what happend.

fished Delavan today and got decent bass and pike as well. There are tons of big bluegills spawning all over lake, move around to find giants. Lost a giant smallmouth boat side.
Fish came on cranks, jerkbaits early, but then jigs and tubes once sun got high. Gills came on gulp

Boated 4 SMALLies, 6 largies and 5 pike. I was surprised to see how few fish there were cruising the shallows compared to last weekend. The weedeaters were in full effect in front of the golf course and in Lake Lawn which didn't help much. We did catch a few nice largies but the smallies were small. We eventually switched to pike fishing and had a double on 20 minutes and then a triple on 30 minutes after that. We ended up 5 for 6 on pike.
