Early early ice has started in the sheboygan harbor. We have been fishing from the marina docks setting frabils up at end of piers, but not walking on ice yet. Ice thickness varies from open - 2in. 11 browns/steelhead where caught on Monday this way. Tuesday a beautiful 33 in. 10-12 lb male bow and a few bump and runs. Its begun and if ice leaves the fish are still here in good numbers and can be caught with spawn or shiners below bobber. Most of the browns where running around 5-7 lbs so far and quite a few small arlee steelhead, which have been caught since early fall. I would recommend letting most of those go, as they have just recently been stocked.

Nice fish doors! I will be out this afternoon and post a report later. Looks like the ice will be on the way out after today. Which only means its time to put the tipups on hold for a week or so.

Did the same thing Doorz did and hit the rivers Sunday. Ended up 3 for 6. Found one hole that had some fish, otherwise it was a lot of walking! Still very new to the shore fishing for steelhead. All fish on spawn, small hooks, and 6lb floralcarbon.

Doorz, on lake-link you suggested trying a simple jig and spawn for steelies through the ice. About two weeks ago (when we had ice) I had a few hours free so I headed down with a make-do setup (1/32oz jig with a pink willy worm/spawn sack) and the tip-ups. In about 3 hours of fishing I had zero fish on tip-ups and went 6-8 on the jig stick. Half were small (13-20"), but I did ice 4, 6, and 7lb fish. The two that got off were after long runs...obviously nicer fish too! Had a ton of fun, and I couldn't believe how aggressive they were. Every one came off the bottom (that surprised me a bit as I expected more suspended fish) and smacked the jig immediately. As soon as I'd see a fish start to come off the bottom I'd lift the jig and let it fall....they hit on the first fall everytime. Thanks again for the tip...they were some of the best fighting fish I've ever caught jigging through the ice!

Fished river for about 2 hours today drifting pink spawn, caught one beautiful chrome 30 in. and a missed 2 others. I found a hole off a point that seemed to be holding a few. Sunshine was the key today!

Just moved to Fond du Lac area last week, was planning on fishing the sheboygan harbor tue. morning. I don't do much trout fishing through the ice,
more accustomed to walleyes on little bay de noc. Any help with type of bait on tip-ups or what type of jigging lure might produce would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help.

My buddies made up to Sheboygan yesterday midmorning- afternoon. I was stuck at work. They ended up with 2 browns from 3-7 pounds and 1 northern that was 32in or so. They also had a few break offs and drops. The best action was from 12:00 to 1:30 and then everything died. They did leave at 4 so they might have missed the evening bite. Most fish came on shiners and spawn sacks. Nothing on jigging raps or jig/minnow.

Brown trout fishing has been excellent off the sheboygan piers the last few days. The strong west/sw winds have been making for some excellent conditions off the south pier. Fish are being caught on spawn, cleo's, krocs , you name it. If bite gets tough switch to spawn for more consistency. Majority of fish i seen caught were in about 2-5 ft of water, literally at the start of pier along the rocks. Most fish running between 3-6 lbs, with a few 8-10. Not as big of fish as you milwaukee guys, but still some beautiful hard fighting brownies. Saturday proved to be most succesful with limits taken all day long. One unfortunate observation i made was the amount of people not throwing back the smaller fish. I think that is very crucial with the brown trout, ecspecially here in sheboygan. NOt too many big boys caught the last few years, this is best i've seen in 3-4 years so far. Good luck
Chris
