Just a heads up if anyone is heading up to the bay for eyes the fishing has been very good all over the southern Bay from the UW shore, Vogts, Genos reef, and the west shore as well up to Oconto. Spinners up high in 4-12 feet of water.
Also trolling for muskies is still going pretty good in the river.

Was up out of Ephraim fishing this Sat all day. Still seeing Smallies on Beds scattered around up there. Water was about 63 to 65 Deg, which surprised me since it was that warm two weeks ago and there were Bass on beds then. The cold fronts must be keeping them off balance.
I boated 20 fish in the morning by myself, working some scattered structure. My partner arrived at 2PM and we fished north, and picked up another 50 fish or so before we called it quits at 6PM. Found lots of 3+ pound fish scattered in heavy rock structure shores.
Bass have been very active all up the Door, best baits are tubes and grubs.
Get up and enjoy some of WI best Small Mouth fishing!

We got out in the Sturgeon bay area on Wednesday night and early thursday evening. Wednesday was quite slow with only 1 26 in. walter. Thursday was a different story. The same area we fished the night before produced 5 walleyes, 2 browns, 2 smallies and a handful of monster sheepshead. The only difference between the two nights was the nice southwest wind we had on thursday putting a nice little walleye chop on the water. Compared to the glass like conditions we had on Wednesday night. Water temps ranged from 60-63. We contour trolled shorelines in 8-25 fow. Thundersticks and long bomberA were the baits we were using. Get out and enjoy some of this great fishing because it won't last much longer. The alwives are on there way in. Here are some pictures from our trip.
By way Fin nice job keep up the good work.
Tight lines and good fishing!!!

A few big eyes still being caught off Oconto on spinners along the weed edges but you have to weed threw the sheepshead according to a buddy of mine.

If you want your limit of 15 perch the bay is the best its been in 10 years. East or west shore, doesn't matter, move until you find them. When you land on them, 15 9"to10"ers is realistic. Minnows if there are junk fish around, crawlers if just perch under you has been a good rule:) Don't have to be by the crowd to find em'

Was up looking for some Smallies Sunday. The weather and the tapering off of spawning activities made it a lot more difficult. Only boated 6 fish all day up there. Saw quite a few more but they were pretty tight lipped.
Fished from Rileys Bay all the way up to Sister Bay.
I will be back on the water up out of Ephraim tomorrow and will report.
I need to get my new digital camera back soon so I can keep up with you guys on all the pictures!

Well it looks like the Spawn is all wound down. Caught a few fish last night but nothing huge. Closest we got to a big fish was a 3.5 to 4 pounder boat side that broke off.
The Smallies will begin moving to their summer haunts soon and they will put on the feedbags. Even top water bite will be hot once the weather improves.
For now I am going to switch to Salmon on the big pond and Walleye on Bago for a few weeks until some of the Door County reefs begin to heat up for Eyes and Smallies.

Got out and fished the bay Tuesday 1-8:30 and Wednesday 7-1:30. Tueday we had our limit of 30 perch in an hour and half. Then went and chased walleyes. Ended with 15 in two hours. Got out early Tuesday morning and got 20 perch. Probably could of got a limit if we would of stuck it out. But instead we decided to chase walleyes. Had 11 walleyes in 2 1/2 hours. With couple nice ones lost boat side. Would of had a lot more fishing time if we weren't running around trying to avoid the storms.
All perch ran 8-11 ins with walleyes running 18-23 ins with one nice 26 1/2 incher.
Also had a couple of bonus smallies with one being 20 1/2 and another being 21 inches.
The perch were all caught in 20-21 fow. The walleyes were in 7-15 fow.
Hope everone has a happy and safe forth of July!!!
Tight lines and good fishing to all!!

Fished yesterday on the bay. Slept in, just in time for the noon bite. First pass caught 7 walleyes. Never got over 4 lines in the water that pass. Ended up catching 20 or so in a few hours. Biggest was 26 inches. Most were 16-18. 8-17 ft of water, didnt seem to matter.

Fishin remains excellent on bay this week. Fished three different spots over weekend, every spot they were hitting. You know they are really going when you only fish the hours of 10am to 3pm. One 8lber other wise had my pick of cooky cutter 15-16inchers. Nice to see that again. Never targeted perch however, caught half dozen each trip on the harnesses.

Was out again tues. morning. Three of us landed 9 eater walleyes by 10 oclockam. Called it a day early to get to work. Caught almost all fish on the reefs. Buddy of mine went out at 7pm. He caught his 6 keepers in an hr. The funny part is he couldn't find the reefs. He caught all his fish suspended over 16-17 ft. He doesn't have a gps on his boat, so he fished close to where he remembered they were.

Was out a couple times this week. Fishing is still fast and furious. Caught an 8 lber yesterday. Biggest one of summer for me in the lower bay. Last time out we put the bow mount down and casted shad raps on the reefs and caught just as many as trolling. Alot funner too! They would follow right to the boat like a muskie some of them. Caught a bonus smallie too, 20 1/2 incher. Too many gobbies to jig a crawler. Think I'm gonna concentrate on salmon for this next week though.

Walleye fishing on the bay has been excellent the past week. To be honest with you the last month as been unbelievable. We have been trolling 7-25 fow. Mud lines and reefs are some of the areas the fish are relating to. Shad Raps and wally divers have been working on the reefs. Trolling crawler harnesses in 18-25 fow have been working out on the mud. Its tough to say how much longer this bite will last, but I'm still marking a lot of bait fish down there so I don't see these fish going anywhere soon.
The bite on the northern part of the bay is just getting started and will only get better as the month of August goes on. Crawler harnesses suspended have been catching these fish as well.
Here are some pics from recent trips.
Tight lines and good fishing to all!!!

The Bay is still giving up good Walleye all over the place. Pick a reef drop in harnesses and cranks and give it a whirl. Most of the best action is coming by keeping the baits in the top 15' of the water column. Catfish and Sheep are also mixed in the catches.
Was out helping a friend Pre-fish for a tournament Thursday and Saturday last week. We boated a dozen Eyes between 17" and 30", along with a bunch of Catfish and Sheep. Sat we boated another 5 Walleye the smallest around 22" and the largest at 29".
Word has it the Perch bite is still going strong all over the east shore of the Bay.
I hope to be out again a bit the end of this week.

Don't forget about Geano reef. Lots of big fish taken there recently during the FLW tourney. Crawler harnesses were the bait of choice for most of the pros. Winner took it with a jig bite the last day in shallow waters. Simply amazing totals of over 100 pounds for the leaders!!
I am going to have to try and sneak away to hit it soon myself!!!!!
Such a tought time of year salmon runs, walleyes bites, musky fishing and the opening hunting seasons soon. What's a guy to do!!

Fished the tip of Door County and Washington island for smallies and did so so. Weather was an issue and I was mainly trying to get my in-laws on some fish rather than fish a lot myself. Did good in the channel out on Washinton island and the reefs east of Detroit harbor, also caught some fish on the big island in between the tip and Washinton. Best baits were rattle traps, and drop shopping finese worms, caught a few nice fish on football head jigs with chompers as well. I would have like to fish more for eyes and smallies but maybe next time!

Was out a few days ago in sturgeon bay area, saw about 40 or so whitefish on the camera, no perch or eyes. Then I heard that people have been catching whitefish all winter, all along the bay. We caught 2. They would mostly mouth the baits, and move on. Does anyone know any tricks to catch a whitefish. I downsized to the smallest jigging rap, and that caught one. Other bit a lake shiner?? When whitefish move in do game fish move out?

I have done really well with a big salmon egg cured, along with small pimple with a waxie and also a small white power tube with 6 lb test floro carbon leader, I've heard that giant schools of whitefish can push off the other gamefish, it makes sense if there's a bunch around, I bet there's some big pike near by...Hint hint! :-)

Fishing was good this weekend. Caught almost a limit of whitefish Friday. Saturday was the same. Fish were very picky, had to watch them hit to catch them. Small panfish jigs or small rap was the ticket, tipped with spike. I brought ten or twelve to the smoke house. Going to bake a couple tonight.

Well I finally made it up here, and I will continue to be here for several more wekks as long as the weather is good. Fishing is fairly consistent we've boated a fair amount of fish with some big eyes and some smaller eyes. Yesterday we had 3 fish over 10 lbs today our biggest we just shy of 14 lbs so the big fish are here! It's easily trollable in most of the bay now one the east shore out of Sturgeon bay , the west shore is blocked up with ice completely. Trolling and jigging is working best.
I'll try to post some pics soon if possible??

Trolled the river down river from the crowd yesterday. Water was dirty. Never had a bump trolling. Water was just too mirky I think. Marked fish most of the way?? Lots of people up by the powerlines. Talked to a few who snagged some pigs up by the dam, and caught a couple smaller males as well.

Went looking for fish and found out where they were not biting yet? Went up to Sturgeon Bay on Monday and launched out of Potowatomie (really low water) be careful. trolled the "flats" with sticks for about two hours. Mid day lite winds, bright sun. Not a good combination. Caught one 27" northern. Stayed 5 to 10 ft. most of the time. Went over to Sawyer harbor and casted Rapalas (nothing).
Went into town in the PM with live bait and drifted the channel, caught about 7 northerns to 29" and lost a few others on the way up.
Took a drive over to Oconto River (by truck) and trolled near the river for about two hours on Tues. morning. zilch. no marks, no fish.
Loaded up and stopped at Depere, caught 5 decent eyes up to 22" and a 23" sheep on a crank. One of the eyes was milting so they are still horny.
A fun trip with two good friends but not much fishing action. ( Well time to go to the bank for a loan for some more gas money.) :D

There are a lot of really good bites still going on the key is to fish shallow flats during the day with the warmest water or the wind blow shore if you can find it. Penasukee to menomonee has been good, still some prespawn fish out there as well for at least 5-8 more days, maybe even longer!

Went up to Sturgeon Bay last weekend hoping to get into some prespawn fish and found out that the water was just too cold. Had a great time with good friends but we also found out where not to fish. Fished Sturgeon Bay both Friday and Saturday night's and definitely had some missed fish--they seemed to be very inactive. Clear night skies and temps. into the 20's did not help us much. Boated 1 nice fish which was released and weighed in at 9# even.
Also fished Saturday during the day out of Kewanee and had some decent action for brown's at the power plant.
Sunday woke up early AM and headed to Marinette to try for some of those 30" fish that Eric has been posting pictures of. Just could not get our program to work for the large fish-trolled for a good part of the early afternoon-watching Eric catch many nice fish right by us. Did manage a couple of nice Smallies which made Mr. Jig--Corey happy.

 Good and bad of my last couple of trips... fishing was pretty good however just before heading out one night I did a really good job of smashing my finger in the door of my truck some how???? Hurt really bad for about 10 seconds abd I could have easily used about 6-8 stiches when I ripped open a nice gash in my left index finger. Popped a few IB profin wrapped it up and went out eyes fishing, caught some nice eyes too! Should have gotten some stiched because my cut is nasty now.
Good day bite for pike in the bay rigt now too.
The bay bite will last for a while now with a good post spawn bite just about everywhere in the bay, soon pulling spinners up shallow will work very well.

Yesterday was one of the best days for me this year out in Green Bay. Customers caught about 15-20 pike with 4 over 35 inches along with many in the 28-32 inch class which was a lot of fun. To top off the night we just pounded the eyes and some very very nice fish. In 4 hours of fishing they caught about 18 eyes and 12 of hose fish were over 26 inches with a couple of 30 inchers etc..
Funny thing was that Green Bay was supposed to get hammered pretty good yesterday and i tried to talk my client into rescheduling, he wanted to try and get out as long as it did not rain too bad. It sprinkled for about 2 minutes, crazy!!! Clients released all their fish as well.
On a side note the next couple of weeks there will be tremdous fishing oppurtunites in the Bay to catch lots of fish and some very big eyes. Trolling crawlers harnesess with a split shot, no weight or a light bottom bouncer is generally the ticket to catching most fish. Although cranks like shad raps, jointed rapala's, deep diving husky jerks will also work very well at times. The best area's will be the east shore of university bay near and around Kidney island, up to Bay shore park, Penasuakee, and Oconto these area's on the west shore are also very good as well, lots of fish will sit in the weeds. If they are not in the weeds slide out to the breaks or the shoals or reefs shuch as Volks, and Geanos, along with other area's, typically in June the bigger fish slide out into the mud and off shore structure and can be caught everywhere just about and a lot of times the wind and water temps dictate where you will find the most fish.
There's also a good night bite on the west shore now out of Ocono, Pestigo and further south sticks baits like rouges, and husky jerks work very well. get out and enjoy the Fast action of Green Bay. My spring trips are about over and it was the best spring for me for big fish with 25 eyes over 30 inches this spring.

Fished this weekend on east shore. Fishing is as good as it can get. 30 walleyes in a few hours has been the norm this past week and a half. Cranks or crawlers, it doesn't matter. Might as well use cranks if they let you. You can just cover alot more water. Shad raps and flikker shads were the ticket. 15-24 inchers. My dad did get a 30incher on thursday last week. Big team tourney this weekend will put a lot of pressure on these fish.:)

Just got back from three days in the lower bay. I spent the first two fishing smallies, one in sawyer harbor and the second day on the flats. 12 smallies in Sawyer up to 17.5 and 9 on the flats. All the fish on the flats were 17 to 18.5. Worked 6 - 10 ft. of water. Surface water from 64 to 69 degrees. Many fish still on the beds and many just hanging around the area. Missed several very large fish on the jump. (I'm still setting the hook like the walleye guy I really am.)
On the way back I stopped at Bay Shore park to fish eyes in the Red Banks area. Fished 3 hours with 4 eyes, 17 to 22". Several large cats and sheep in between. Harnesses over the reefs is the ticket. By the time I left, the Bay Shore Launch at 10:30 am there were only a few spots left. Mostly perch jerkers! Doesn't anyone work?

Yatch..thanks for the timely report. We're heading out tomorrow morning for three days, with pretty much the same program in mind. Chase some smallies in Sturgeon Bay for day one with live bait and plastics, and check out Monument and Larsons, shift to Bay Shore for eyes, and yes, even perch jerkin' for day two, and play day three by ear. I can't resist targeting pike for a few hours in sturgeon bay, because of the size potential, so it's gonna be a smorgasbord. Stay tuned for reports after we return.

You fared better than us. We started on Thursday, tagrgeting smallies, and did ok. Many fish were still in the flats at Sturgeon Bay, but wuld only hit if you harassed them in the beds. So after spending a couple hours searching the flats for active (feeding) fish throwing spinnerbaits, and catching a few small ones, we headed out to Monument. Picked up a dozen or so nice smallies, 17 to 19 inches, and lost a few more on the jump. It was very calm out there, so we pitched jigs with leeches or shiners in the 10 to 15 foot range. We strayed deeper, jigging live bait, hoping to find Mr. walleye, but no dice. Ended the day searching for pike in the canal, but other than a couple babies, it was slow.
Next two days, trailered over to Dyckesville, and trolled the shoreline everywhere from 8 to 20 feet, and nada on the eyes, but the goats were active. . Same on the reef. Lots of perchers out there, but reports overall were grim, but a couple boats we talked to did get limits.
Should've been there last week, I guess.

Been hearing the reports of big smallmouth coming thru and grapevine and had to check it out on Sunday afternoon and Monday moring. Sunday was a bust as the wind whipped up some 3-4 footers and that made things very difficult. 8 fish in 8 hours Sunday was all I had to show for a long drive. Biggest was 4lbs-6oz. (19 inches) on the digital.
Actually thought about heading home but the room was paid for so I stuck around. Sure glad I did! Monday AM the wind laid down and the smallmouth attacked. Fished senkos (wacky) jerk bait (white), and spinner bait (chart.). Probably totaled 25 fish Monday morning (had to leave by 2pm to get back). Biggest was 21 3/4in. and weighed 5lbs.-7oz.
Door is sure interesting? These fish come so shallow to feed in the middle of August. Water is 71-72 degrees and these guys are in 3-7 feet of water. Amazing fishery. Headed back in a few weeks and in the Fall for more.

Fishing was very good late last week/weekend. Good numbers (15-20) of 18-22 inch fish with at least one hog mixed in seems to be the normal trip. 15-22ft of water with harnesses still is the pattern. Also caught good numbers of big yellow perch trolling for walleyes. Nice to see that again. This 32.5" fish is the longest of the year for me.

Fished larsons last week. Did ok. A few walleye, a few smallmouth, one 35" northern, catfish, and sheeps head. Biggest walleye at 29 inches 8lbs, biggest smallmouth at 4.4lbs. Flat calm didn't help.

Fished off Door County a couple times this past week. Did well both times for the hours spent on the water. Alot of 27"-31" fish. Fishing can be slow at times, but when you run your lines over a school of 7-10lbers it makes the drive well worth it. Had a couple of doubles on big fish. both times out. 15-45fow. All on crawlers harnesses. Was amazing to see a a handful of boats make the incredible drive from Green Bay in 4-5ft seas to fish the MWS Sunday. One guy said he made it all the way to Whale Back Shoal! Wish I could have weighed our biggest four. 6,7,7.5,&10lbs.

Here is four man limit of whitefish from a recent trip on the Bay of Green Bay. All fish caught on jigging rapalas. Lots of fun, threw back a handful as well. Saw a giant musky under the hole too. Came in to the rapala, but wasn't big enough to interest him to open up.

Fished saturday on the bay. Did real good again on whitefish and so so on perch. Caught our two man limit of whitefish in a couple hours along with a dozen perch that we had to work for. All whitefish were caught on jigging rapalas and perch on shiners. Simply amazing how many whitefish are out there!

Well the Bay bite is starting to finally pick up with lots of nice fish all over now starting to hit. I will be fishing from the Lower Bay, Oconto, Pestigo all the way to Marinette depending on wind and water temps now on the west shore. The east shore still has plenty of Big fish still spawning and will be good from now threw early May. So there's lots of fish out there and some big girls if your willing to put in the time!
Trolling boards will work best with cranks and stick baits and as the water warms up the the crawler harnesess will be best.
See you on the water and be safe!
Here's a few pics from this week, all but 1 fish were released.

Last pics from last week. With numerous other fish fish from 20-27 inches, with that being said I did notice a decline in overall numbers of fish I'm seing this year, the good news is there are still plenty of big fish to be caught! There was an awesome pre-spawn bite in front of Oconto and out in front of the Pestigo this year and now trolling the Bay shorelines will be excellent both day or night time! Anywhere from County Park 2 north to Peshtigo, ecspecially just south of Peshtigo river. There will also be very consistent bite in the lower bay bite will pick up around Sumico. As the water temps hit the low 50's make the switch to crawler harneses but cranks and stick baits will work for a while yet.

Fished on Sat and Sun trolling cranks with a friend. Sat it took us awhile to find fish but we made the trek for Oconto upto Peshtigo and got 7 walleyes between 22" and 27". :)We did not get the big momma we were looking for! We did have 2 hard hits that missed, trout possibly? And I lost something big that pulled hard with a very big head shake, probably the 10+lber we were looking for! the leader, 8lb Berkley Vanish broke at the knot which was tied to my swivel:mad:

Hit the bay in marinette yesterday. We trolled and that seemed to be the ticket for us. We caught fish from 6 to 14 fow all on stick baits, bright colors worked for us. We did manage 1 30" fish which we took a quick picture and let her go, we also hadd 2-28", 1-28.5", 1-29" and the 30" were are biggest.
Get out there since the bite will be done before you know it, and it is such an awesome time.

Well you live by the sword and die by the sword so they say and the last 2 days were exact oppisite! Yesterday was just awesome some big pike during the day pike fishing, and some big eyes at night! Clients said they would never forget the day ecspecially the big 32 + inch eye they caught. Nor will I! (no pun inteneded!)
Today sucked!! I sucked up shop really bad and felt horrible for my customer but once in a great while the fishing really stinks for me that was today! My words of advice are to not fish Pensaukee shoal, Not fish Oconto, or County park 2 pretty slow there today! at least it was for me.

This 12 year old girl was just awesome everytime the board went back she popped up yelling to her dad and uncle "can I please take it" so for the first half dozen fish or so she reeled in all the fish, but when we started getting double headers and triples all three jumped in for some action.
I hope some day my daughter has half the amount of passion about fishing as this girl did!

Fished the bay on saturday and sunday. Saturday we had 4 northerns and no walleyes but after only 2 passes dad got a treble hook caught in his hand while dealing with a northern. Out of the three clinics in Oconto none were open, one or two clinics in Peshtigo they were not open, so finally we went to the hospital in Marinette and the doctor pulled it out. He said it was one of the deepest and hardest ones for him to pull out. Today we fished around lower bay and got skunked. We only had 2 sheeps, and one catfish. Pulled crawlers and cranks. :)

Was up in Green Bay Tuesday and Wednesday and fished the area around Kidney and did quite well. They were not jumping in the boat but we caught a fish about every 20 minutes. We were pulling crawler harnesses in 6-7 feet. Water was dirty and ranged from 53-56 degrees. 30-35 ft. leads, no weight, and at 1-1.2 mph. Large # 7 colorado blades in hammered gold, green, chartruese and white. Beads were larger and in green and red strings. white blades worked best with translucent purple beads. We did not get anything real big but all the fish we caught were between 20 and 24. Hope to get back up next week. We even caught a 14# channel cat!

Fished Lower Bay Friday and today. Ended up with exactly 40 eyes trolling. Yesterday we had 15 eyes trolling in 5.5-9 feet of water. Water temp was around 57. Today we got on the water around 7:00 am and had 25 eyes, 5 Freshwater drum, and 1 catfish. All on crawler harnesses running some no weights and some with bottom bouncers. Bright colors worked best. Today bottom bouncers were the key. We had numerous doubles and triples. Also fished off of the pier at the trailer up in Little Sturgeon. Caught around 50 largemouth and a couple smallies. Biggest Largemouth was 20.5". Had to run back to the trailer to get the camera and of course it was released.

Night Fishing, eastern side of green bay. July. would you say good Idea to troll deep with planer boards. Or at night just troll no planer boards. Or jig at night, planer during day only. Or different presentation.
I am a long time walleye fisherman, mainly Rainy Lake canada, new to green bay. New to night fishing, but want to night fish out on the green bay this summer.

My best advice is one of 2 things. First off hire a guide that knows the area well enough to help educate you on season patterns, If I were new to an area i would Hire a guide for a spring trip, summer trips and fall/winter trip.
Myself I really only guide up there in the Spring but there are a handful of other guides who work up there in the summer and fall that can out you on big fish.
otherwise follow the reports and tips and gather as much info from fellow fisherman as possible. I'm still learning new things every year I fish out there.
best of Luck to you!

Fished saturday and sunday and had a blast. On saturday we had 32 eyes, the two biggest were 25 and 27.25. We were fishing in 7-11 fow. It was very rough and the fish were on fire. Brown and yellow harnesses worked awesome and so did green and orange harnesses. We went through almost 8 dozen crawlers. We actually were swapping crawlers off boards that werent doing hot and putting them on the hot boards. Then when we ran out some guy at the landing gave us some more. Today the fish seemed to start off slower and then it heated up. We ended up with 25 eyes, but no big ones. We lost a ton of fish including 12 in a row. Fished off of the dock up in Little Sturgeon and had a crapload of bass. I had three 20" smallies, a 19, and two 18.75"s. All were released. All in all an awesome weekend

No pictures. Orange and chart harness with a silver baitfish blade, or a chart perch colored blade on bottom bouncers worked best for us. Also caught fish on brown, gold, and green. Hopefully be back out tomorrow. Had a buddy who fished over by Suamico and he had 15, but no big ones.

Went out again on Thur. morning and started working the same area. Weather was just a notch warmer and skys overcast. Boated 11 eyes from 20" to a solid 24". Had one double and lost two at boat side, poor netting job.( me )

The last few weekends the bay has been on fire along the east side. Pulling inline weights and crawler harnesses off of the reef edges in anywhere from 10-24 fow. The rougher the better especially trolling right over the tops of the reefs. Well for today. Fished the bay today and we decided to go for some bigger fish. We were going to stay at the trailer in Little Sturgeon but with the forecast decided not to. Got on the water about 6. By 8:30 the rain, wind, waves, thunder and lightning chased us off. It was slow but we managed 4 with the biggest being 29"s. This fish had the board under from the time it hit until the board came up a couple feet away from the kicker. When I took the board off the line was up high and thumping like a Freshwater drum or cat. Dad was kind of horsing it along and it just kept running. When he finally got it up I could see the gold and it took another run before I netted it. Never in our wildest dreams would we have thought it was a walleye. Here are a couple of pics along with some monster sheephead. CPR'd

Well dad and i prefished from Wednesday through saturday and the tourny was on sunday. Some days the fishing was awesome and some days slow. Wednesday we headed up to chambers island and horseshoe reef. We did not pull anything off of chambers and only pulled one off of horseshoe, but it was 30 inches. Was caught pulling harnesses in around 25 fow. Then we went in and ate a late lunch and headed out to larsens. At larsens we only pulled two big catfish and no eyes. So wednesday was slow. Thursday we headed down to lower bay, gaenos area to have some fun. Down there we pulled 19 eyes with the biggest being a pair of 25 inchers. Friday we headed back up to chambers and horseshoe because there was a pretty good wind blowing in there. Wednesday was almost flat calm so we thought that was the problem, and figured we would it with some wind. Well the wind and waves didn't help anything and we pulled one 28 incher. Saturday once again we headed down to lower bay and pulled well over 25 fish with the two biggest being 27, and 28 inches. Sunday for the tourny we headed down to where we caught the 27 and 28 inchers and the fish were there. caught over 25 eyes again and weighed three fish from 24-27.5 inches which took 8th place. The tournament was very well run and had some awesome prizes for those who didnt finish in the money. For 8th place we received a 14 bird pheasant hunt which we are very happy with. here are a bunch of pictures

Fished door county area Saturday and Sunday. Saturday left the house at 4 am and headed up to door county. We had the lines in by 7. Trolled cranks and crawlers with cranks catching 5 and crawlers catching 3. Reef runners took 3 and husky jerks 2. Ended up with 8 fish. Two smaller ones, a 26, and 5 between 27-29 inches. Sunday went out to where we got them on saturday and trolled cranks for a while and only had one on but we didnt land it. Threw on crawlers and moved out deeper after seeing someone else catching them. Caught 2 fish a 26 and a 27 both on purple. Here are some pics. Fishing in Green Bay for muskies is long underway now. Good numbers of fish are being caught each time out. Fish for me are averaging 32"-45.5" The big fish havn't come in quite yet. The cold snap this weekend should lower water temps considerably and bring in more bait and more muskies. Best baits have been anything 7" or smaller. Fish have grabbed every rod and almost every bait I have put in the water. Speed and location have been the most important factors for having multiple fish days. Here are few fish from last few days. The biggest fish yesterday weighed just shy of 30 lbs!

Felt bad for the thing so we pulled our lines and went after it..After about 10 minutes we had it in the Frabill..I cut out the hooks, grabbed the lure and the pelican was free..The lure was a Big storm crankbait attached to a leader that I wouldnt use for snake northerns on okauchee..I wish I could of gotten some pics, but it took all 3 of us to subdue it..
So anyways, 2 hours later we pop the fattest 49+ Ive ever had in the ranger!! Talk about karma lol.. My buddies PB

Fishing on the Bay of Green Bay is spotty at best for perch and walleye. For every report of a nice catch there is five reports of no such luck in the same spot even. Whitefishing on the otherhand is as hot as ever. Even with increased pressure these fish are everywhere and are willing to bite almost every single day. Small jigging raps tipped with a spike on each of the bottom treble is the ticket. Then I like to deadstick a small treble with 3 spikes on it,right next to your jigging hole. That rod will take 3 or 4 a morning as well. :)

Went up last weekend Monday and fished out of the Oconto Breakwater about 5 miles out in the bay from 11 am till 12 am. Fished from 36-70+ feet of water using ice jigs with large fatheads, jigs and gulp, and spoons. Fished with tip ups, "lazy jiggers", and automatic fisherman's. Total whitefish count was 9 and total burbot was 3 the one in the picture was roughly 8-9 pounds and 28.5 inches just a slob. These fish can battle let me tell you! on light fishing tackle both the whities and burbot.
the single whitie was bout 20 inches.
next year i will definately have to make my way to dykesville!!!!
ohh and almost forgot that massive 2 inch perch hahaha

Made it up to Green Bay with JT last Fri/Sat. Bite was a little tougher than years past at this time, but did manage some real nice fish, especially this freak of a Brown Trout. Dragged some jigs, vertical jigged and did some trolling. Water temps in the Bay were from 37-39 degrees.

Well the bite is on with big fish and some decent numbers of fish! The pattern has changed big time with lack of current in rivers drawing fish up to spawn, and a lot more fish are out in the bay! Several days this past week I had 4-5 fish over 29 inches some with eggs and some spawned out. I have been chasing some pre spawners and they are still there but they are in the colder water, the steady action is in the warmer water now from the lower bay all the way up to the border.
Trolling has been the ticket for numbers of big fish and this past week I boated a pig with my buddies along with 2 of my friend boating there personal best eyes.
The good news is if you want to chase big fat girls (walleye's that is..:-) ) there are still plenty of fish pre spawn just look for area's with cold water and rock! I will be heading over to the East shore as soon as that ice is gone for some awesome fishing as well, and the sturgeon Bay shipping canal is also hot right now for prespawners. Trolling cranks and stick baits has been the best with both lead core, snap weights and long lining behind the boards depending on the depths I'm fishing. Several of the area's I'm fishing we've had all to ourselves even on weekends which is nice!
I will be up in Green Bay for the next 3 weeks and home only a few days for family time.
I have a ton of pictures but I'm only going to post the fish that are 27 inches or bigger.
Best of luck!

Fished the bay for the first time today from 8 til 6. Trolled University bay north to the first big point and back. Caught about 15 eyes of which none were over 25", some sheepers, a 38" snake northern that was spitting eggs still. and a 48+ inch muskie. (my personal best):) Trolled 4 to 8 FOW. I think the weather was too nice for eye fishing as it was calm as glass pretty much all day. At least 100 boats trolling that east shoreline. Everyone seemed respectful with everyone trolling a ton of boards. Saw a ton of 18-25 inchers caught. We used all kinds of cranks shallow to deep divers, and some small spoons behind some weights. Seen some guys catching fish with only 3-4 feet of line out behind the board, or did you guys use the boards to slip down to a barrel swivel with pinch releases? Great day, my buddy cooked like a piece of chicken and is in no question well done. So burnt!!! Great day on the water and thanks for the info Eric.

No problem glad to help you out! Nice fish and that's a blast! Here's a few fish and report from this past week!
Made it back from my second week in Green bay and the fishing is just getting better and better. I can not get over how this fishery is so amazing for consistent numbers of giant walleye's! This past week in 5 days of fishing clients boated 34 walleye's over 27 inches.
One day this past week we landed 22 fish over 27 inches, and everyone was caught on a jig with gulp, including a giant 12. 8 ounce spawned out walleye. Easily the biggest spawned out walleye I've ever had the pleasure to put my hands on! If this fish had eggs it would have been a 15 lb fish and the great thing is my client let her go to fight another day. I'll post the pics when I get time. To find a spot and to catch these fish on jigs was a night I will never forget as a fisherman, literally my jaw dropped time and time again as we could not have timed it any more perfectly along with being the only other fisherman in this spot.
Also fished a different area up in the bay where I had a father and his 2 kids and we caught a ridiculas amount of walleye's casting 1/4 ounce darter head jigs with gulp. All the fish we caught were 22-26 inches and fought great.
Trolling is also working well with cranks and stick baits behind boards both day and night for the walleye's.
Heading back up there this week, weather dependant.

Trolling with both cranks and stick baits from Penasuakee shoal, lower Bay and up to Oconto and Peshtigo have been good Marinette has been slower this year due to lack of current. The east shore and lower bay is also very good now, and more prespawn fish are now spawning near dyksville and north and very little crowds around Dyksville which is nice.

Green Bay walleyes are biting up and down both east and west shores. Small fish can be caught in large numbers in the southern bay. Big fish you have to move north a little. Trolling Crank baits has been the ticket, deep, shallow, and suspended.

Fishing the east shore (Door County)now the past 10 days and the bite has been fantastic. Fish are still spawning and finishing up the spawn. So plenty of big girls hanging around the shallows to be caught. Trolling is yielding most big fish although casting in spots with stick baits and jigs with gulp is also working. Best luck for the eyes are the reefs islands and shoreline for big fish and stay aweay from the crowds....... rarely ever see another boat!
Door County walleye
The pike bite was also great with some big pre spawners still all caught with gulp on darter heads or snap jigging minnows and jerk baits. best depth for the pike were 4-25 feet depedning on the spots we fished.
This will be my last week in green bay until next spring, what a fantastic fishery!!!!!!!!!!

Fished with Brett Alexander saturday night from 4-8pm and had a blast. First fish right off of the bat was a hair under 33"s and FAT. Fish was caught holding on to a spinning rod, and talk about a fight! Then the kicker was Brett's net broke in the morning so all he had was the basket. The rest of the fish we caught were between 20-28 inches, also had alot of swings and misses. We couldnt even get pictures without a board going back! Went back to the same area this morning and pulled 4 in the first 30 minutes and then only two after that. Fish were 22.5-26 inches. ALL FISH were RELEASED. Also caught one brown that did a couple flips on the way in.

Worked for smallies on saturday and only got a dozen or so smaller fish, it was real windy so we decided to give up and fish the bay. Ended up doing real good. I have fished the Bay quite a bit over the last couple of years with pretty good success, but this year I am out of touch since I have been working 70-80 hours per week. I had a chance to get out once a couple weeks ago at Oconto, and the water was so clear you could drop a quarter in 11 feet of water and see it on the bottom. Among myself and two other boats we had zero walleyes for the day:mad:. I will be fishing the Bay this Memorial day weekend and was wondering if any of you have a suggestion as to where I should launch. East or West shore doesn't matter to me...I will travel to either Oconto or Sturgeon Bay and all points South of those ares. Also, what would be a good starting point for depth. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to give their 2 cents.

Went up too fish the Bay for the first time on Sat. Launched out of Suamico.
Did not get are lines in until around noon. Within the first fifteen minutes we landed a nice 25 incher. Useing crawler harnesses, trolling water 22-27 feet deep.Fished till about 7:30 ended up with catching six eyes biggest was 26. Did not keep any over 24. All of the fish were caught in the top ten feet of water.
Seem to do real good on silver hatchet blades. It truely was a great experience, I've been wanting to get up there for the longest time. Before Sat. never caught a real big walleye. My personal biggest is now 25 inches, but i hope that will change soon, because i gotta get back up there.

Fished 4 days starting last fri. North Bay. Had a good harness bite on some of the reefs. 31 fish was the total count. 5 under 26", 13 over 28" with three making the 30" mark. Purple, gold were the go to colors. #4 whiptails, and #5 baitfish series were working natural colors. Trolled 1.5 ish on a good tip and it seemed to work water temps on surface 68-70..These fish up there have "shoulders" All fish CPR. .

Hey Folks,
New to the Forum, but I like the quality of the fishing reports here! Plus most guys here seem to be from the CPR crowd which is something I also like. Let 'em grow!
Anyway, I'm going up to Pot. State park this weekend and will be bringing out my 15ft alumacraft. Don't think I'll make it out to Larsons for the trolling bite so I was wondering if anyone had an idea on the best spot/technique for catching some walleyes in Sturgeon Bay? I was thinking of just putting on some thundersticks behing a 1 ounce snapweight and just trolling up and down the shorelines. I've got the hotspots map, so that is a start. Any help is appreciated!!

If you can make it to larsons and troll spinners or deep diving cranks like reef runners that would be the ticket, or I would troll at night in the shipping channel or around pot park shoreline with sticks and cranks, the bigger fish are more on the off shore structures and suspended now.
Welcome aboard and let us know how you do.

Not really a fishing report, so sorry in advance, but I did learn something:
Wow, crazy weather for our camping trip up to Pot. State Park. This was not the weather we had in mind when we booked our camping trip for the last weekend in August?! Friday, weather was 65/cloudy. Threw spinners & wacky worms along the pot. state park shoreline and ended up with a 14' smallie about 10 gobies and had a pike bite off. Only got in about 2 hrs of actual fishing time before the girlfriends (was me and my buddy and our girlfriends) had enough.
Then the the heavens opened up and the Gods became angry on Friday night thru Sunday (20-30 mph winds from the North and about 2 inches of rain) Actually wore my Cabelas ice fishing jacket on Saturday (high temp was 55!) Didn't venture taking the boat out after looking at sturegeon bay and seeing 6footers. God I wish I still had my 20ft Targa!
Sunday the rain stopped but not the wind. Said "the hell with it, I didn't come up here to only take the boat out for 2 hrs!" Launched at the campground but only stayed in Sawyer bay because the ladies were along. Ended up catching four 8" perch and the usual seagull-food gobies. Talked to a younger guy (presumably from the DNR) at the launch about the invasive species and he was making sure the boats were removing seaweed etc.. Glad to see him there informing everyone.
What I learned this weekend:
1. Women and waves don't mix
2. Boat landing in Sawyer Bay is totally fine. My Fishfinder marked water 3.5-7ft all the way out (and it sits 6" below the water)
2. If the park ranger says you should move your tent to higher ground, you listen to him. Thankfully we did.
3. Stugeon bay is only 2 1/4 hours (google said 3) from milwaukee...I'll be up again in a few weeks to explore more (weather permitting):)

If the weather permits I would fish 2 area's cedar river and north of cedar river in the 18-25 foot depths, or Green island. Troll deep diving cranks and crawler harnesses for big eyes! Also look for weeds, and small humps and off shore structure, if you boat is big enough make a run out to whaleback shoal and a few of the other shoal most are loaded with big eyes now!
Hopefully you'll be kind enough to give us a report on how you did??

right out from cedar river troll around by the green can, have had some relly good success in that area and have also had good success in a little bit deeper water at times, the 32-35ft depths will hold fish at times especially durong the day, at night a little shallower seems to be the ticket and that is going to be your most productive time. also dont be afraid to creep in and try the shorline rocks, key is obviously to get your baits out away form your boat and steath is the key

Got out last night at 6 and started north of Cedar river and ended up being busy bringing in fish until we decided to leave at 4. We found an off shore hump that produced fish everytime we trolled over it, getting doubles more often than singles. Down deep husky jerks and deep taildancers 50 ft. behind the boards worked best, with blue catching the most but gold catching the bigger fish. 1.8-2.0 on the gps was the speed, fish ranged from 24-29 1/2 with a bunch of 27's and 28's. Would've posted pics but somebody forgot to bring extra batteries. But thanks for your help Eric and walleyewackr.

What a weekend. It was just one of those trips. Each day the 2 of us boated well over 40 fish a day. Too many doubles and triples to count and at 1 time we even had a fish on all 6 rods. most eye's were in the 23-25 inch range with a fair share at 26 and the biggest being 28. Trolled crawlers, color wasent to important but speed was. I so wish we would of had our jig rods with gulp. over 20 feet of solid fish in 50 plus feet of water, have never seen anything like it.

again had a blast with big fish. biggest being 31. tons of fish over 28 and lots of doubles and even a tripple. deep water from 30-40 feet up north was the best. 1.1-1.2. purple and gold was the best blade. keep the baits with in 5 feet of the bottom. again all fish were released as allways.

what areas do you mean by lower bay ?
Bigshellcracker
10-06-2009, 01:36 PM
I think the lower bay can be classified as Suamico and all areas south of there. Or maybe Oconto and all areas south. I have two nautical charts of the bay, one is for lower and one for upper. The lower bay chart includes Sturgeon Bay and Larsens Reef, but I would not consider that area the lower bay.
Does anyone have any info on the walleye bite this time of year? I am not ready to put away the boat yet but am clueless as to where I should fish. Do areas like Suamico or Bayshore still hold walleyes this time of year or would I be wasting my time there? I don't have the time to make a trip all the way up to Cedar River or Door County. Thanks.

10-06-2009, 07:52 PM
The deeper mud and rock for the eyes but the place to fish is green island and still a lot of the off shore structure in Door County for eyes the night bite is starting up there and no one is fishing for them, in regards to the lower bay mainly the south shore as soon as you get out into the bay and the last 1/4 mile of the river, the boats tend to congregate out there.
Best of Luck!

Thanks for your reply BIGSHELLCRACKER......I was looking for a little more detailed areas of the lower bay such as the mouth of the fox or dead horse bay etc for trolling for muskie. I can tell you that 2 weeks ago the walleye were in pretty good around strawberry and horseshoe islands from 9 to 22 feet.My partner and i did not catch a fish under 6lbs with the largest a 10+ caught at 2 in the afternoon. We got blown off the lake on friday and drove to De Pere and fished the dam to the mouth of the fox and never caught a walleye or saw one caught.Water was 69 to 72 then but im sure it has dropped by now.Hope the info helps you alittle.......Good luck

Green Bay ice fishing has picked up in the last week. Limits of whitefish are common. Volks, Bayshore, Red River, and Little Sturgeon are the best bets with fish being caught from 5 to 40ft the farther north you go. Small pimples, raps and Genz gigs tipped with spikes/minnow heads/or waxies is the ticket. Perch are hit and miss. You here of a limit one day and then none the next out of the same holes. Dykesville has been the best though for perch this week in the 24-26ft range. Small shiners and Rosies.

I'm going to make some calls but I thought I would just ask first. Since I do not have an ATV. Are fisherman driving out on the ice on southern Green Bay with trucks? Bay Shore south, I would guess would be an area to target those Whitefish. Looking to give it a try on Monday or Tues.
This cold weather should help matters. If it works out I will let you guys know what I experience.
Thanks

Yatch, I drove off of Vokes landing which is just south of Bayshore on Tuesday and the ice was great. No snow or water and around 15-18" of ice. As for the fishing, fished for an hour and managed 3 Whitefish all on Silver Pimple and Waxies. Good luck out there, I will be in the UP this weekend at Shakey Lakes for a "drinking", I mean "fishing" derby.

Hit the bay both sat, sun. went for walleyes at first and my pop's was lucky to pop 2 nice walleye's, one at 8 pounds and 1 at 5 pounds! just an awesome fight on a ice rod! later on we moved out about 4 miles to fish the whitefish and managed to get about a dozen on the ice. oddball jigs and jigging spoons tipped with waxies did the damage. sunday we fished off vokes and we never got on the school that was there the week before. seen a couple on the cam but they were on the move. we even down sized to a gill pill tiped with gulp waxies and still couldent get bit. was still a blast! we'll try an get back here one more time before ice out. I'll try to post a couple pics later. good fishin'

Spent the day on Monday from 7:30 am until 4pm fishing 10 to 15' straight out from the Vokes ramp and a little to the south. Ice conditions are great with at least 16" of solid ice were we were. A little unnerving driving a 3 ton vehicle on mostly clear ice. (went to church on Sunday just in case, as if that would help) ;)
My partner iced 2 whitefish and lost 3 at the hole.
along with some small perch. I saw a lot lookers but briefly on my Vex. but never iced a fish. My partner had no vex. ??? Do ya think there is a ping affect here? WE moved several times
I even sent the camera down just to look around. (very few rocks?)
What I found out from this trip is it is all about being on the fish. Guys that were on them limited real fast.
First time whitefishing but I will be back. :D

This past week I fished the west shore and the fishing was very good! trolling and casting plastics is what caught us all of our fish, the plastic bite is a ton of fun at night and no one is fishing that way out in the open water!
Our biggest fish were over 12 lbs and had many 28-30 inchers. I will be heading back up to the bay in a few minutes for another week up on the west shore for a few days and if that bite is still good I will be there all week. Very few if any boat traffic over on the west shore so it's nice and peacful fishing.

Back in town on short notice with bad weather and a motor issues, the bite has been great up in the bay this past week with many big fish over 30 inches caught. Both sides of the bay are good now. Trolling stick baits and cranks have been the best for me at night, during the day cranks and crawlers harnesses have also been good, along with jigging in open water with jigs and gulp.
Found some new really cool stuff this past week where we fished gin clear water caught some huge eyes casting jigs and gulp and also caught lake trout and big pike! This is a special place to fish for big fish!
I will be fishing the east side of the bay for the next 2 weeks and staying at Beach Harbor resort (920) 743-3191 this place is an awesome place to stay!! SUPER CHEAP RATES!!!!! John (the owner) has special spring rates for fisherman. Some rooms are cheaper than $40.00 dollars a night! I will be staying here for the next 2 weeks so if you see me say hello and I'll fill you in on the bite and some tips for these big fish!
The bite on the west shore at Pensauke is good along with Sumico and Oconto right now and will be good for the next 2 months same came be said for the bite from Dyksville to the tip of Door county for eyes.
Worst trip for me was last night where we had 11 fish and biggest was 28 1/2 inches, best trip was this week we caught 5 fish over 30 inches, 3 during the day along with some big pike and lots of fish in the 25-29 inch range and boating over 30+ eyes in day/night out in the Bay.
Now for a few pics.........

Awsome fish as allways Eric.. I have a question for you.. With out telling me your spots. I would like to know what you look for when jigging, or how you go about finding these big girls?? I know from oconto down to suamico that area is litered with small humps. Is that what your jigging on? Again thanks for any tips your willing to hand out.

Use trolling as your method of finding schools of fish on either flats, clam beds, humps or drop off and points with inside turns. Find consistent action making trolling passes then jig over those spots and you'll be pleasently surprised! or cast cranks like flicker shads! I love to explore look, find new water new fish, and what i like to refer as "My fish" I like finding my own spots schools of fish that i do not see anyone fishing up there. Some times it's a bust and you strike out other times it's woth it's weight beyond what you can imagine.
Did well also fishing out south of the Menomonee river in the 20-30 foot depths on some of the humps there!
My advice is think out of the box, don't follow the crowds and don't be afraid to go out and fish the bay by yourself, get the confidence you need and keep those spots to yourself! :-))

Finished up my trips last week up in Green Bay and had some great days on the bay with one day where we landed over 55 walleyes in one day both jigging and trolling which was a lot of fun for both me and my clients. Guys if your going up to the Bay you have to check out http://www.beachharborresort.com/ The rates were 39.99 a night with a bar attached, fish cleaning station, Great Boat Launch, great shore fishing, and they even serve great food at the Bar. The school will be next Spring probably the 2nd or 3rd Friday/Saturday in April. Classroom/semiar will be 4 hours from 2PM till 6PM then we will go out and fish out in the bay that night. I will also be giving the same classroom schedule the following night from 2PM till 6Pm then we will fish. There will be some space availble to fish out of my boat and more than likely I will have 2-4 other guides with there boats available. So if you do not have a boat you can fish out of our boats otherwise the class will be mainly about how to you how to catch them in your boat. I will go over the entire bay where I fish, and when I fish specific locations. I will be working out the details later this fall then I will post all the info on my site.
Much of the class will be about different techniques that no one in the bay is doing and using, along with marked maps etc... Also discussing jigging in the Bay both day and night, along with the fantastic Big Pike Bite in the spring!

I would try out from suamico, university bay or geanos. be really carefull if it's your fish time out, it gets really shallow in area's. gps with depth contours is a must. try trolling flicker shads or salmo's 20-35' behind boards in 6-9 feet. keep boat speed between 1.4 - 1.8. I'll be up this week or next weekend to give it a shot. hope the winds calm a bit! good luck

You'll be o,k if you go out of most launches no need to worry that much, the gps will definitly help. I would compare it to lets say a computer.......almost everyone has one and needs one for work etc... same is true with a solid GPS and chip for the Bay. If you do not have the $$$$ then be careful study some chart maps and you'll still catch fish no problem. However there are bouys not marked and if you hit on at night your in deep trouble! I will go over all this stuff and more in next years Walleye class! Spring 2011 Beach Harbor resort!

eric, do you have any recommendations on places to fish on the bay that may be productive and fairly safe?
Fishin Addiction
05-15-2010, 01:00 PM
Fishing out of Bayshore park on the east shore or Suamico on the west shore are safe places to launch a boat and travel out from. Like always your first time to a new area I would just use caution. Suamico to the south back to Green Bay can have some tricky spots if you're not familar with the area. Fishing is a little slower than normal with the cold front that has come upon us last week. Stable weather and warming temps should really get the walleyes going. Cranks and harnesses are still pulling fish in 6-20 fow. Get out and enjoy this wonderful fishery.
Tight lines and good fishing to all!!!

Just got back from fishing Door County for walleyes during the full moon period. All I can say is WOW!!!! 62 walleyes in total with 26 walleyes over 28 inches. With 7 fish over 30 inches largest going 31 1/4 inches. All fish were caught from sunset till moon set. We were fishing 12-15 fow looking for pods of bait fish. The last night we worked a little harder for them as we had a lot of alewives on our lures. This night bite is pretty much done now with the amount of alewives that have moved into the areas to spawn. I am in the process of putting a video together of the all video we shot during this trip. Will post it when it's complete. If you're interested in a spring walleye trip for 2011 or just have questions, you can e mail or call. As most clients are rebooking for next year. So prime dates are filling up. Still have a few openings in July, August and September for the large walleyes and salmon in Door County.
