hey guys,

just had a few questions about the spring coho bite out of milwaukee harbor and others in se wisconsin/IL

I have been successfully getting browns and lakers in the 45-50 feet of water so far trolling this spring just out of milwaukee harbor.

I have never fished for the spring cohos and was hoping to get a couple on the dodger/fly setups this spring come may.

My question is what is a typical "average" FOW that you can target these fish in, i know it varies alot but i have a small boat and dont like to travel that far out of the gaps in milwaukee, and will only do so on nice days.

is it typical to find these fish in close to the harbors like in that 40-50 foot range or do you still have to travel out to the triple digit depths to find them?

my current stash of tackle is one downrigger, dipsy divers, and planer boards . I dont have any leadcore setups, if you could suggest a couple rigs or anything that i could run I would appreciate it. I know the 00 orange jensen dodgers work well but what about when you have planers with no lead??? can i run an in line sinker on this? and i also have heard that really heavy mono leaders are good for flies , say 50 pound test because it snaps the fly around a little more..

this is a rambling post but if you could shed some light on the spring coho bite and typical rigs and depth to catch them at i would appreciate it.

thanks,

chuck .
