I'll be relocating to the Sheboygan area, and I was hoping someone could shed a little light on the fishing on the lakes around Sheboygan County. I've fished out of Sheboygan a few times and am familiar with that game, but I'm really looking for some panfish, bass, walleye, etc... info on some smaller lakes to hit when Winnebago and Lake Michigan get a little too rough. Any info on winter/ice fishing would be greatly appreciated too. I've iced fished the harbor a few times with decent success, but woud like to ice fish/wade the river for browns/steelies, and really don't know any of the access points etc... Anyone on here willing to help please post or email. Thanks much. Good fishing.

fishing this weekend was tough, lots of unwanted ice at this point made it hard to fish where i wanted to making fishing pretty tough, did stop down by the power plant, didnt actually fish but there is tons of bait in there right now-maybe worth a shot

fishing the last 4 days has been pretty decent, last wednesday and thanksgiving were both good days to get brownies and steelies on cranks and small spoons, then that swithed to a jig bite the last few days, we had good hook up percentages but were losing a bunch of them during the fight, the ones we did catch were barley hooked, must of been just comin up behind it and nippin at the baits, i also lost two browns that were pushin 20, frustrating when they lay out of reach of your net and just shake there heads

Love the steelhead you are catching. Beautiful coloration on them fish. I just tied some hair jigs recently for fishing crappies in open water, and trout through the ice. I think they may work under a float for trout right now. I am thinking of heading out for them and trying these jigs. I fish twistertails and tubes below bobbers for crappies so I figure it is the same concept. I tieda few offbeat jigs that are purple/chart. tinsel, and some white/gold ones. I think the white/gold would work due to the fact it looks like a shiner, alewive, or smelt........

wind and warm temps have sheboygan ice not lookin to great right now, was there over the weekend and could almost lose your tip up when teh waves went up and down, water is extremely dirty, and i stepped off one of the piers and went in up to my waste, fishing sucked due to dirty water only managed one mid 20s pike jiggin, decided to leave after i noticed the crack i was sittin next to started to raise almost 10 inches up and down due to waves, checked it out today and there is a lot of open water, almost enough to get a boat out again, to bad its going to get cold again, oh well wont be over there again to till the water clears up and the walleye bite slows down

no doubt about it eric it is definitley a great fishery for almost every species of trout and salmon, looks like the ice withstood the winds and rain fro the past weekend, water is still very dirty so going to wait a while before i get back out there

Hi all. Wondering how the ice fishing has been out in the marina lately. I will be out this Friday to try my luck. NEEDTOFISHMORE I have had good luck ordering spawn sacs off the internet. (google: Spawn sacs). Here are some pics from Kenora, Ontario last winter. I hope to have some pics from this coming weekend to post.

Welcome pistal Pete I hope you put the hammer on the fish! if spawn is not working try minnows, hair jigs, jigging spoons, and gulps on a jig!
Best of luck!

here is a few pics from yesterday, my buddy brad did a tv show for keyes outdoors to maybe get a few more clients for his guide service, i helped him out and it was a blast, an above average day we ended up with 7 browns and had a fresh batch of two different strains of steelhead show up, got 5 of them, lost 2 fish under the docks that wrapped around chains or poles and had 2 more get off, and then had another 5 or 6 bites that were there just didnt get to them in time, but anyways here is a few of the keyes guys with fish. also the show will be aired on saturday the 28th at 8 am i believe on fsn

also one other thing i wanted to add, there was a lot of open water that skimmed over sunday night and with the amounts of snow were are supposed to get that could be a very dangerous situation not knowing where you are walking, especially if the ice holds up under the snowfall, so be very careful out there

Had a good morning. Went 4-5 with one Steelhead and 3 Browns, including one real nice fish. Didn't get her on the hand held scale because we had another fish on at the same time. She actually hit 3 times ... once she broke the line, then she came back five minutes later and we didn't get a hook in her, and then 10 minutes later she hit again. Still had the line from the first hit in her mouth! It was nuts! We took a full bag of eggs out of her before the pic was taken. She was probably in the 13-14 lb range. All fish were CRP'd. Water is starting to clear up.

Got to the Marina this morning to find the gate locked. Ice did not look good and the edges were all open. Fished of the rock wall with spinning gear and caught a 30" 8 lbs Steelhead buck, a sucker, and a catfish. I quit when I reeled in the catfish.
Went to the Pigeon for a few hours. It looked pretty good but I did not see any fish or have any bites.
Man, I can't wait for summer to get over with and the harbor to ice up again! :)

Had an incredible day in the water. Started in the river and went 4 for 5 on Steelies. Left at 10:00 when the crowd showed up and went to the harbor. Went 0 for 1 on Browns in my float tube ... but the one I lost was an absolute monster. Got it within 10 feet before it spit the Rapala. It rolled on the surface and I got a great look ... it was in the 18-20 lb class. It really hurt to lose that one. Went back to the river after my feet went numb :( and went 1 for 3 on Steelies again. I won't forget the good and bad of today for a long time! Only got one picture because I was alone most of the day.

Started in the river today. Went 4 for 5 on Steelies. Unfortunately ... the 4 I caught were all under 8". What in the world are they doing in there? Must have just been dumped in. Went to the harbor with my float tube. Took me 1/2 hour to kick against the wind to get to where I wanted to fish. Once I got there I got a 31" Brown within 10 minutes. Real thick female. Hit and jumped and was actually higher in the air than my head. REALLY cool! Landed her took the hooks out. Took a pic of her in the net across my legs ... at which point she went nuts ... twisted in the net and somehow drove the treble hooks from my J-13 into my tube. Grrrrrrrr... Fortunately I got to shallow water in a hurry. Half the air was gone within 5 minutes. Monday I pick up my new "marina cruiser" ... 14' jon boat with a 3 hp Evinrude. Perfect for the protected waters of the marina.
I think the smelt are the harbor in Sheboygan. I saw a lot of fish swirling on the surface like they were chasing something. The J-13 I was using was black and silver and got inhaled by that Brown. I'll post a pic if I can find a way to get it out of the camera I dropped taking my waders off.

There were browns in the harbor last weekend. I caught / saw them in the marina. However, there are boats moving into the marina now so that makes things more interesting. I would guess you'd be able to catch them off the breakwalls, trolling in the harbor, or out in the main body right now.

stopped over by south pier on my lunch break today and was amazed at the amount of seagulls dive bombing alewives today, litterally hundreds of seagulls and not just in one area the whole harbor must have been just chocked full of bait, never seen that many before they were fighting over each and everyone, all that bait in there i wish i had a rod with me, not one person fishing on the inside either ???????, bet a guy pile some fish up

late report, got a few smaller salmon from the piers doing unstandard things. watched about 50 people cast spoons with little success. not much bait around the piers, pretty scattered but seen some birds dive bombing here and there. lost a pretty big king in the rocks and had a few others get off due to dull hook points

I fished the Sheboygan Area with my friend Troy and my fiance and I caught and released 14 bass and 3 pike, my fiance caught her share of bass also. Between us around 25 fish were caught and released. It was a slow, hard, and at times frustrating day. Bluebird skies, NE Wind, high barometer, and the challenge of clear water added to the stress of finding and catching fish. Rapala DT-10, weedless rigged Bass Assassin jerkbaits, and shakey worms were the best baits. Seen a few pike also and some big carp in the shallows. I also missed about 6 solid strikes on the DT-10 and, my girl had a pike bite a Mimic Minnow swimbait right of her Power Pro braid. That fish must have had fillet knives for teeth......

some of the toughest fishin i have eve expierienced has been in the last week. fish are around but extremely spooky, water is crystal clear and way to warm and fish are not cooperating. alewives are around in decent numbers but fishn sucks, could see my bait on bottom in 16-18ft of water. thats how clear it is right now on the inside, and tons of boats cruisin around makes it frustrating. cranks are workin a little bit, threw tons of different stuff. anyways gonna cool off and hope we get some offshore winds to cool it off and bring in some fresh runs and make a nice mudline again. off to pick up my 17lb steelhead i got last year from the taxidermist on 4lb test, heard it looks great cant wait to see it

Walleyewackr,I was wondering if you could give me any info about whitebass in the east branch Fondy River.A report i heard there were alot of them in there?? Where would i go to fish them and what works best ?
walleyewackr
09-17-2009, 12:51 PM
you can go anywhere on the fondy and get them, hickory st bridge and behind somewhere the bar would be good places to check out, and also down in supplies marsh there are tons of places to try. try twister tails or try jerkin some streamer flies or wolf river rigs or slip bobber rigs with minnows would work to if you like that kind of fishin. stinkys point would also be a good place to try particularly at night, its lit up there at nighttime and that light attracts minnows and usually there is other fish there in that case. hope that helps, i am actually going to be goin up to oshkosh to fish for some this weekend since salmon fishin is spotty

fished the last couple of nights of the pier with limited success in the rain and crap. had a nice brown get knocked off by the net tuesday on my third cast and then nadda after that. conditions were perfect for fish but it sucked. big kings are everywhere, buddy from wolfpack had a few guys out on a charter the same night and didnt hook up once. yesterday had 3 on and didnt land one of them, never happens to me but oh well. yesterday jigging spoons were the ticket because there was awesome currents a long the pierheads yesterday and fish were stacked up. the mudline from the previous night was gone due to east winds again but conditions were almost perfect to get a bunch, got my bites but couldnt get any in and also couldnt keep the dam gobies off.

was out last night for a while, waves were goin over the pier pretty good so couldnt really fish the areas that usually produce for me, i had to good fish on slip corks and spawn sacs but was casting cranks and wasnt fast enough to my corks. seen some silver fish jumpin on lakeside but was unable to fish them, other then that was trying some new casting techniques last night to no avail, caught enough dam gobies again. water has definitly cooled off a bunch compared to saturday. people were jumpin n off the pier, dont think they will be doin that now. also dumper dan and seadog were trollin the harbor last night and only seen them hook up one time

10-01-2009, 12:35 PM
plastics bite has sucked lately, havent had much success doin that in the last few weeks. was super hot and will get hot again just isnt right now. jigging spoons has been about the most productive technique as far as getting bites anyways. been missin quite a few with them, they smash and set the hook with nothin there and it like as hard as they hit em how the heck dont you stick em. had a few bites on spawn sacs but thats kind of been inconsistent. this past saturday was a ton of browns cruisin the rocks, couldnt fish them yesterday and didnt have the right stuff saturday. its gonna be good just a matter of when, i went there right after work and fished till around 8 ish. my bites of sacs came between 330 and 5

Provided the lake lays down, I'll have my boys out again this weekend. last weekend we caught a couple in the 130-140ft range. It was awesome watching my 4yr old wrestle with a 7 pound rainbow (his first ever). And an awesome job he did.
Will report how we do.

Saturday I stopped down by the boat launch at Deland Park for a few casts after my sons practice. Had one hit and that was it. Their was a few other guys trying their luck with some success. Not sure what was working for them.
Sunday I took the boys out in the boat for a few hours in the afternoon. We fished mainly out front to the Nun buoy. It was a nice day despite the wind. The graph looked promising with tons of marks and bait pods. However, the fish being tight lipped is an understatement. When we thought all hope was lost, the rigger took off with a nice brownie that wanted to scrap with my son.
After a short struggle a nice 6 pound brown was in the livewell. They sure are colored nice this time of year. I'll try to get a pic on here soon of his trophy.
Lots of fish around still to be had. With the low boat traffic and calm seas I'll be back out soon..
Tight lines

yesterday it was misserable out there but we still fished the marina and it was one of the better days we have had in a few weeks, lots of kings with a lot of dark ones and some still fairly silver ones caught. skein was the ticket yesterday under slip corks set at all different depths. no specific one worked better then others just kept changin up. one brown on a crank that was pretty small and couple of other hits on stickbaits. will be back out on saturday and will post pics later

Are you fishing from the rocks or a boat? Any idea of when they open the docks for use?

we were not in a boat, as far as the docks it is usually the end of october, depends on how soon they get the boats out usually. sometimes faster then others

anyone try the new berkely transoptic yet, seems like a good line for visiblilty but have had quite a few fish break me off already. just wonderin if anyone else is expieriencing this at all...as far as report for sheboygan, bite is great with lots of kings being taken on skein and some on rattle traps, fish were gettin hit pretty hard in the marina on saturday by the boat launch. funny how people think that is the only place to catch em, could show them some spots that would blow there minds, they know who they are. wasnt goin to fish there was just askin you how you were doin, dont need to be so protective of your spot. on a side note, stating to carry around small plastic bags to pick up garbage that gets left behind, dont ruin it for everyone else becasue you are lazy. gonna hit the browns hard this week!

I feel your pain.
I didn't have H1N1 but I've been sick for about a month and went through a week and a half of fevers, sweats, inability to eat or drink due to swollen tonsils. etc. Visited the Immedicenter, my doctor twice and finally the hospital for IV drugs and fluids. I still have a nagging cough but at least it's managable. I missed all of the chinook run but am hoping to be able to get back out before the weather gets nasty and try for some browns or steelies.

no brownies to speak of yesterday, casted gulp for almost 4 hours with only one hit so we switched it up and fished some spawn sacs under corks for a little while and ended up 3 for 8, had 2 break offs again...i am officially done with this new berkely transoptic, thats a lot of break offs so far this year and we missed a few others. only steelhead today on blue spawn sacs, blue has been pretty hot for me this year. tried pink, chartreuse, orange, and red and only had 1 bite on a chartreuse the rest came on blue. here is a pic of my buddy paul with his biggest steelhead to date

fishing the last 3 days has been pretty rough for me needless to say, thursday only fished for about an hour and a half but didnt get any bites, friday had 3 steelhead and lost one buck brown, and saturday got one buck brown and missed a few others. all that seems to be in the marina are a few steelhead here and there and buck germans, no seeforellens have showed up yet. buddy said he got a few out on the piers along with some dandy lakers. fished the pier on saturday for a few hours with only one bite. hopin this cold weather we get starts things a little more, seem to be a few weeks behind due to mild nov temps. here is a pic of my biggest steelie from the weekend

I'm sure its a liability issue. It's happening at many of the harbors. I'm sure their insurance company has something to say about it.
I'm just hoping it freezes soon and we get some good ice. I noticed the forecast is for 3 to 7" of snow Tuesday night. If that falls on fresh ice it could reallty screw things up ... unless they open those gates and we can set AF's on the piers.

i dont think you have to worry about the ice getting messed up, suppose to be east winds up to 25mph, that break any little ice that there is up and then with the cold front im sure there will be a west wind or north wind that will blow most of whats there and broken up out. will get a fresh batch of ice after all is said and done. will be out there this saturday and will let you know whats up, either ice fishin or with the long rods

Fished a local lake this afternoon/evening. Needed the portable shack today! I don't want to give lake names, as most of the lakes in the Sheboygan area are pretty small, but I fished 20ft of water and was on fish all afternoon. Never needed to move, had to do lots of sorting, kept a mix of a dozen crappies and gills. Didn't release too many other keepers though. I have a hard time finding lakes with decent sized panfish in this area, but plenty of action, and enough for a good meal.
Fished spikes (multiple colors) on glow shrimpo. Don't think it really mattered what I put down there. I literally marked 5ft of fish all afternoon.

wondering when there will be safe ice in the harbor to fish
Was out there today on the north side of the marina and there was a good 6-8" of ice there. Was alone all early afternoon till we left around 3 and another group came in. They ventured a little closer to the open water along the last long set of docks. Watched them drill a few holes and it didn't take to long for them to get thru. Got Skunked at 2 different places today with shiners on tipups and jigging some waxies. Ice right near shore is kinda thin, had to skid the shack across and then walked on the rocks and squeezed thru an opening on one of the ramps. Getting the shack up and down the rocks was a treat! Warmed me up when I was cold though :D

Water color last i saw was alittle brownish but improving. The upper river ice has really been messed up this year.I think the 2 high water surges moved alot of fish up river but dangerous ice is the problem.. BE CAREFUL, USE CAUTION..

went out to a kettle moraine lake and found dink perch, moved across the lake and then found small crappie. gave that lake up and went to crystal lake. got a perch on a tip-up in 30 f.o.w., 2 small pike on shallow tip-ups, and 3 bigger pike, but still small, jiggin in 30 f.o.w.. also had some bigger perch look at jigs, but did not bite. amazing how you can see bottom in 30 f.o.w in that lake. fish were just too small for pictures. not to mention they were glazing over real quick with the temps and wind. so all released immediately. biggest pike went maybe 24.

This past week the shore fishing window has become very small with a 4:30 to 6:30 bite for trout and salmon. Some whitefish are being taken by those targeting them.Noticed they are larger size whites than the ones we caught thae past few winters on Green Bay..There goby feeding habits are causing them to spend more time close to shore instead of out in the deep water.

managed get out this morning for a few hours. got there with a couple hours of darkness and went 3 for 3. all three were kings, 2 four year olds and one 2 year old, 3/4 oz doctored up hopkins jigging spoons took all three for me. was a very good bite while it was dark, then no wind at daybreak made it tough. was surprised how many people were out on the pier, seen about 5 other fish caught and a few others on. i have never had a problem with people having an etticket on the pier in the 12 years i ahve been fishing here. simple someone has a fish on and its running your way you simply wait till its cleared till you fish again. there is group of europeans that i have battled with the 2 times that i have been out this year, not cool really. the one almost tried to start a fight with me this morning. had a king run 140 yds of line off on his initial first run and he was down the side of the pier, so i moved a little bit to gain some line back and thats when all hell broke loose. oh well, i guess it is what it is but i dont think i will be fishin the weekends anymore. cant deal with people like that, anyways fishin is good just have to go outside the box a little bit and do what others are not.

I finally made it out here for the first time. ( Sheb. north pier) Lost a nice King while screwing around with my perch rod. I was worried he was gonna spool me.....Cuz he was runnin!,,,, So I started messin with the drag. I made it a little too tight and it gave him the leverage he needed to straiten my hook. He was fun fighting on my lite action rod. I did have him on for quite awhile. The second King was on a spoon.... Got him in. I'm kinda upset with myself for worrying about my dang drag on the first fish. That fish could've and should've been caught. First time out there this year and that was the first fish,,, so had to get the rust off I guess. Only seen 1 whitefish pass by on the way in. But did see another fish caught between me and the north pier lighthouse. The group of people walking by enjoyed the excitement also.

fished yesterday to avoid the weekend crowd and glad i did, buddy went satruday mornign and said they were lined up on the pier all the way to the beach. glad i didnt go, went yesterday for a few hours. nothing special, water was a bit on the muddy side but conditons besides that were great. bait was everywhere and fish to. had a horrible hook up ratio yesterday. went 1 for 1, but missed 7 other bites on doctored up jiggin spoons. couldnt believe how many i missed, were smackin it good and initailly were there when i set the hook but then never stuck them. oh well, was fun needless to say. 1 small king and that was it, should of easily caught my share.

TJPIKE you are right about the pier fishing. I went out yesterday from 6-9pm, and got nothin, nor did i see any fish go by. One guy did tell me he had somethin on at 6, but lost it. The cold water was gettin blown out while I was there.

Well the time is finally upon us Sheboygan area anglers. Fees are now in affect for some of the popular fishing lakes... Enforcement in Aug...( Big Elkhart, Little Elkhart, Crystal, Gerber, Ect....even the marsh....) At least they are starting it off affordable.... $6 or $7 per day or $16 for the year.... Its not alot, but this is just the start. $16 a year is alot better than Random lakes yearly fee of like $70.... And Random lake is just 1 lake. It should be included in the Sheboygan Co. lakes pass......

Just checked out water along shore, its fairly clear but the temp went from 64 yesterday to 70 today. Even though we have had west wind for 2 days its getting warmer !!! :( Will check it again tomorrow. Fishing pressure is little to none.
