I spent 100.00 bucks on spider wire yesterday. I usually go with power pro but I guess I wanted to try something new. Maybe it was because it was 2.00 bucks less or maybe it was the cool logo - Have you guys had any exp good or bad with this line? I put 50 lb on a bait caster and I was throwing a big spook with no problems. I caught a 21 inch bass on that set up. I had another rod with 30 lb crystal and I had no problems- I caught lots of small bass and no line tangles at all.

I set up several other rods with 30 lb regular spider wire and it was a disaster. I was getting birds nests on spinning reels, knots in my line every 10 minutes. Then the worst...

I had an upper 40s inch musky on a top water bait and my line broke. The knot did not come untied it just broke. I have never had problems like this with other braided line.

any thoughts?

I had all sorts of problems with fireline crystal for anything other then ice fishing. Once it twists the line strength goes to zero. I just threw out about 140 dollars for fireline crystal because it was total crap. It is not even really translucent once you get to 10 lb test anyway.

Spiderwire makes two brands, Stealth and Ultracast. Ultracast is supposed to be awesome and better then powerpro. Think powerpro that the wax never comes off and line holds color. UC is not supposed to be a limp either, so it fishes more line mono. Stealth is old and been out a long time, so you might actually got a bad spool. I had it when it very first came out and it seemed to have a lot more memory then power pro. This was not so much a problem on baitcaster, but on a spinning rod the line would fall off and cause tangles. Never had problems with line breaking, landed my biggest salmon ever on that stuff probably 10 years ago.

I give it the thumbs up...I have never used the heavy duty stuff but ive had no problems with the spider wire that i purchased. Im a power pro lover but i gotta admit, this stuff is nice:)

I can't remember which one it was but im positive it was spiderwire (I wanna say ultra cast, the one with the purpleish spool)...I had it rigged on a couple of my jiggin poles for canada and it worked great...

I prefer spiderwire over the other for sure. I don't find it as fun to fight fish on spiderwire though.

I fished everything from Fireline, Spiderwire, Stren Braid, and I had problems with both Fireline and Spiderwire cutting into itself, and ruining guides on a expensive St.Croix rod. I have not used Spiderwire for years though because of the problems I encountered. And I hate Fireline with a passion. It was like fishing with a thin saw blade scraping across the guides. I hate the whistling noise it gives off and that is the sound of something rough scraping through your guides.

I put my money on Power Pro and a very close second is Suffix Braid. Power Pro may lose it's color over time but, who cares about that? People use red line, green line, yellow line, blue line, and even pink, orange, or chartreuse lines. Also after a fishing season I take Power Pro and put it on another reel and have line for another season. It is strong as steel, very limp and managable, and does not ruin your guides or reels. Just my 2 cents though, I would've spent the 2 extra dollars on the Power Pro:).....

I guess the only thing I ever use any of these heavy duty lines for would be possibly casting. I absolutely agree with deadeternity. I lost a pole because of spiderwire a few years back. It made grooves into some of the guides that it eventually got caught in while I tried to cast.

I've used Stren Braid along with Big Game braid all year no without very little to no problems to be honest I like it better than Power Pro and it's ALOT cheaper for your buck! If your using a good high end rod rarely will the guides be a factor what I see more often than not is the way people cast and how they get nots and loops in there line which creates problems.

Power pro is good stuff as well but over priced!
