Salmon Lure question

I saw on the salmon picture board on this site that some of the kings were caught on what appeared to a white plastic on a jig head. Just wondering what it was and if it fishes better than spoons or cranks. Also, what times of year is it best: when they're eating, staging, or starting the spawn? Thanks. I can't wait for the fall run to start.

that would be gulp on a darter jig head....read through reports on Lake Michigan and Milwaukee harbor to figure out the where, how and when
